Sophomore at Arkansas State University
I want to learn about how media affects people everyday and also how I can make a difference in the future. Understanding that everything we see and hear daily is not always the whole truth is going to be vital for this class. Realizing this first hand is the first step to becoming not just a good student, but a GREAT one. Sometimes being a “good student” consists of more than just attending lectures and turning assignments in on time. It’s listening intently and soaking up what you hear and experience. Being a good student also consist of putting in effort. In my mind, a grade reflects not only the effort but the quality of work. Building relationships with professors and peers is another key ingredient for success. Sometimes being a good professor is the same as being a good student. The communication world is all about who you know, so positive relationships with students and colleagues is very important.
I consider myself both a deep learner and a performance avoider. As a procedural learner, I do best in environments where I can have an example or template that I can insert my own thoughts and feelings into.

I am a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, Volunteer A-State, National Society of Leadership and Success, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the College Republicans. I also have a part-time job (about 20 hours per week) at an interior design firm and store front where I am a sales associate/personal assistant. While I enjoy the job I have, in 10 years I’d like to be somewhere else. Ideally, I would be working at a large cosmetic or clothing brand managing a social media or marketing department. I hope to graduate in the spring of 2019. As of this very moment, I do not plan to attain a higher degree than my bachelor’s.
I don’t enjoy watching movies because they are stressful for me. I get too invested in the characters. I love music though. I typically get my music through iTunes. The two most recent tracks I purchased are “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and “This Town” by Niall Horan. As far as books go, I haven’t read much since leaving high school, however, a few of my favorites include “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald and “To Kill a Mocking Bird” by Harper Lee.
The first time I remember getting on the internet was before I was even elementary school. I’m sure it was to play barbie computer games or watch disney videos. Now I use the internet for social media, homework, news, entertainment, and other forms of communication. For this reason, the creative outlets are my favorite. YouTube and Instagram are a great place for me to show my creativity as well as become inspired by others. Facebook and Twitter are wonderful ways to keep up with family and friends.
Strengths & Weaknesses:
I am a very organized person and am fairly good at keeping up with deadlines. However, because of this personality trait I can easily get stressed out and feel overwhelmed if I’m not on schedule.
If I had $50 to spend on two weeks worth of groceries, this would be my shopping list:
- 1 loaf of bread
- Peanut butter
- 12 pack of Ramen Noodles
- 6 chicken breasts
- Lactose-free milk
- 4 cans of chunky potato soup
- 4 cans of fajita chicken and rice soup
- Vanilla roast K-cups
