Ch. 12

I think Ivy Lee would roll over in his grave if he knew what was happening in today’s public relations world. It is very rare that a PR professional takes honesty and openness with the public seriously. Most PR professionals’ loyalties are with their client. This does not serve the public well. A great and recent example is the United Airlines scandal. United did not chose the correct course of action in dealing with the overbooking issue. If I am honest, United Airline’s PR has been spiraling for sometime now. Starting with poor customer service, mistreatment of animal cargo, and now the abuse of a paying customer, their PR professionals have lost all control of the mentality of being “open and honest” with the public.
